Colin Porter, baritone

Colin Porter is a native of Newport News, Virginia.  After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, Virginia) in 2006, he continued his studies at the Eastman School of Music under the vocal instruction of Robert Swensen.  Having been a student of music composition in conjunction with studying voice, Mr. Porter is well versed as a 21st century musician and is a member of the national organization, ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.)

He has appeared twice as a baritone soloist with the Geneseo Festival Chorus at SUNY Geneseo and understudied the role of Joe in the Mercury Opera Rochester production of Show Boat in June 2007.  In the same year, he performed the role of Capellio, father of Guilietta, in Bellini’s bel canto opera I Capuleti e I Montecchi with the Eastman Opera Theatre and in January 2008, portrayed Mr. Gobineau in Eastman’s production of Menotti’s The Medium.

Mr. Porter was recently awarded the Encouragement Award at the district level for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions as well as second place at the 2008 Rochester Classical Idol vocal competition.

In summer 2008, Mr. Porter was a Studio Artist with Lake George Opera at Saratoga where he performed the roles of Pinellino in Gianni Schicchi (Puccini) and Guiseppe in La Traviata (Verdi).
